life is like the tide…it comes and goes on its own time

deja vu in Beirut

some 30 years ago, i, too, was a student , urging the ambassador to believe that the civil strife of the past couple of years had blown into war and we needed to get the heck out of there. fortunately, the wonderful lebanese family i was staying with was extremely well-connected and managed to get me out, just days before the heaviest attacks in the hotel and downtown districts.

habeythah, beyrouth – i loved . i loved l and had been there before starting my grad studies. it was painful to leave and it’s heartbreaking to hear of more destruction of a beautiful country that had been like no other.
