, regardless what anyone in the free world thinks of him, is one of the most intriguing political personalities in contemporary history. Benefitting from parochial school education, his father’s self-made wealth and his own marriage into a wealthy Cuban family, the former lawyer became a champion of the poor and underpriveleged, eventually becoming the fabled guerilla and turning against the elite society he had been part of. , power and despotism would define nearly 50 years of his life.

So, prior to serious surgery, Fidel does what would be expected, ensure continuity of control – by delegating executive authority to his own younger brother.

Dictatorship is a family business…at least for now. The free world waits with baited breath to see what is next for troubled when Fidel Castro does eventually pass on.
